Unfortunately, the recent economic crisis has affected countries all over the world, including Australia. Australia has faced large cutbacks in the past months, leaving many people jobless. Almost two thousand jobs were lost between April and May, and there have been more than 8,000 job cuts already since this year began. Some of the recent cutbacks have included the clothing manufacturer Pacific Brands firing 1,850, and Hans Continental Smallgoods meat processing plant cutting 400 jobs. When BHP closed one mine and reduced production at another, 1750 workers lost their jobs. The BHP mining company also announced that there would be more cutbacks to come. All parts of the economy have been affected, and there have been major cuts in the banking, aviation, and mining sectors.

Although Australia has a relatively stable economy compared to many other countries, job seekers will find it much harder to find a job than it would have been just a year or two ago. Unemployment rates have steadily increased in Australia, just when they had started to come down. Australia struggled with unemployment higher than 7% from the 1970′s to the early 21st century. The country had gotten its unemployment rate below 6% by 2003. By 2006, Australia’s unemployment rate dropped to 4.9%, the lowest it had been in more than 30 years. The rates went down even lower, but they did not stay that way. Between May 2008 and May 2009, the unemployment rate increased from 4.2% to 5.7%.

With Australia’s recent economic problems, people have started looking for the easiest way to get a new job. It seems that the traditional way of using a job recruitment agency is outdated and inefficient according to actual job hunters who have compared it to using other internet services. The most common way for people to get jobs today is to use online classified job postings. There are a number of popular sites that people can subscribe to and then wait for the job postings that match their description to be emailed to them. This saves the time of searching through dozens of posting for ads to find the ones that suit particular skills. It is a long way from the outdated technique of searching through the classified section of newspapers.

Job hunters have also begun to use other tools, including social bookmarking sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn to find contacts and search for job openings. There are also a number of websites for freelancers. If you are waiting to find a job, then you might want to consider doing some freelance work until you can find a company that you can work for long-term. One advantage of freelancing is that you can widen your search and choose from jobs all over the world. You might even want to continue freelancing after you land a new job as an additional source of income. Because it is easier and cheaper to use online sites, many job seekers are going that route.

Searching for a job in this kind of market is far from an ideal situation. Skilled job vacancies are decreasing, and many businesses are hesitant about expanding. Despite these problems, you should not give up. It will be harder to find a job, so you will have to be more inventive. You should build a list of people to network with, including friends, family, acquaintances, and former co-workers in this networking file. Many people are taking advantage of online job search sites and other internet sites. Explore all options on the internet. There are a variety of resources at your fingertips if you know how to find them.

Another recent trend in Australia has been a change from full-time to part-time jobs. Since November of 2008, approximately 35,300 full-time jobs have been lost and replaced with 38,400 part-time jobs. Although there are technically more jobs, the equivalent of more than 16,000 full-time jobs have been lost. Obviously, this means that many households are finding themselves required to watch their spending in order to make ends meet. Freelancing can supplement your income if you find yourself reduced to part-time employment. If you are searching for work, you might have to settle for a part-time job until you can find better employment.

Your chance of finding employment also depends on what field you are looking to work in. There are still many jobs available for teachers and medical professionals because regardless of the economy there will be a demand in these sectors. The Australian government is also putting money into infrastructure in order to create more jobs, so there will be a demand for people working on roads and railroads. Both the marketing and advertising sectors have also been doing relatively well.

If you are choosing what field of study you want to embark on have decided to return to school for training, taking burgeoning sectors into account is a good idea. The job market is in worse condition than it has been in a while, so if you want a good job, look at careers that have potential and plenty of job openings. Producing environmentally friendly energy has become more important to individuals and governments alike. You may want to consider the Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) field or uranium mining. The accounting and legal professions are also fields that promise plenty of jobs. If none of these fields interest you, then you should consider working for a small business or open your own.

You may want to consider taking a course or getting training in a different field if you cannot get a job with your skills. This is a major investment, so do not switch careers unless you have exhausted all options in your own sector, or you have decided that you want a different career move. Whether or not you are in one of these fields or considering one of these careers, you want to know what the future looks like for your country.

Many people are wondering what the prospects for the future are. The economic problems facing Australia, and most of the world, did not occur overnight, so they will not be fixed overnight either. Many experts believe that the job crisis will get worse before it improves. They expect unemployment to rise to at least 7%. This is because despite thousands of lost jobs, businesses are still in the early stages of cutbacks.

In order to stay in business and weather the current economic problems, companies are cutting costs wherever they can, and that includes jobs. Cutting jobs is one of the easiest ways for corporations to cut business spending, which is necessary for businesses to survive economic hardship. Unfortunately, very few businesses will try to expand in a precarious economy, which means that there will be fewer jobs replacing the ones lost. Australia is not the only country to suffer massive cutbacks; in fact, many other countries have been hit much harder. The global economy as a whole is reaching its lowest point since the Great Depression in the 1930′s.

Online job search websites can help in a number of ways. First of all they are usually cheaper than a job agency. They are also working for you 24 hours a day. You can wake up every morning to find a selection of ads in your mailbox to check out. This will save you time and allow you to start following up on these leads immediately. An online job search site will also let you find jobs from a wider range of locations. You can search for employment throughout all of Australia, and with many internet jobs available, you might even be able to work from home. The newest technology is being used to find jobs in the changing market. Do not miss out and get left behind.

The next couple of years will be rough, but there is no reason to lose hope yet. The government and financial experts expect unemployment to rise, but they are taking action. Australia’s government has dedicated itself to creating jobs for its citizens, including infrastructure jobs. The government has already spent $42 billion (28 billion USD) to bolster the economy and will continue to take steps to protect its citizens. Australia managed to drop its unemployment rates from about 6% to 4.2% in only five years. Australians will have to weather the storm, but with hard work and smart choices, Australia’s economy will get back on track and the country will once again be blessed with a thriving job market.

This part of our emigrating to Australia guide looks at finding a job in Australia…

As with other English speaking countries, Australia is committed to equal employment opportunities for all, and your qualifications and work experience (and to a lesser extent flexibility) will determine career, not your nationality.

Depending on your qualifications and experience, job prospects may be better in one part of Australia than elsewhere. For example, if you have a background in manufacturing companies, you will have more chance of finding a suitable job in Melbourne, and to a lesser extent in Adelaide. If you’ve worked in finance companies, Sydney is the major centre of employment, while those with a background in resources should look at Perth. You may need to live outside of the major cities though, where there’s less competition for jobs.
Bring with you any qualifications, certificates and references you may have when you emigrate. However, bare in mind that the fact that they may have been recognized officially by the government as part of the migration process doesn’t mean that an Australian prospective employer will also do so. Local qualifications are generally preferred over others and the majority of migrants to Australia would significantly improve their career prospects by getting an Australian qualification after migrating.

Similarly, the experience you’ve gained from working outside of Australia won’t be viewed in the same way as if you’d spent that time working within Australia. There isn’t anything underhand about this, it’s just that employers would rather employ people who have worked for companies that they’ve heard of rather than obscure ones from another country.
That’s not to say that your past work experience is irrelevant, it’s not at all, it’s just that you’ll be at a disadvantage when applying for jobs that people with in-country experience are also applying for. Therefore, you should be prepared to have to accept lesser jobs (in terms of skills required and pay) until you build up some local experience.

Australia has become one of the most popular migratory destinations for thousands of people from all over the world. The country is known for its easygoing and friendly population and its wide open spaces. This article aims to identify some guidelines that can be of assistance to someone interested on moving to Australia.

1. Visa requirements - All non-citizens of Australia except for New Zealanders need to hold a valid visa to enter the country. Also, ensuring that the visa has been applied for under the right subclass is essential to prevent a rejection of the application.

2. Migration norms - Study the norms laid down by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship of the Government of Australia which control the entry of immigrants into the country. Falling under the category of jobs outlined in the Migration Occupations and Demand List can make migration easier.

3. Transfer money – Banks in Australia permit users to open a bank account before actually moving there. When you are transferring large amounts of money into an Australian bank, it is advisable to request for the best exchange rate possible. Travellers who are in possession of AUD 10,000 or more in cash are expected to declare the amount so held on their arrival to customs.

4. Place of stay - Sometimes buying a house will be easier than renting one out depending on the place of residence. A new comer must make himself knowledgeable about the varying Tenancy Laws applicable to different states of the country.

5. Buying properties - All real estate buyers, including migrants with permanent residence are eligible for the First Home Owner Grant of $7,000 which has been hiked to $14,000 until 30 June, 2009 to fight the impacts of the credit crunch.

6. Transfer of household goods – Before transferring one’s household articles one must ensure that they are thoroughly cleaned, documented and verified, as all items entering Australia are subjected to an examination by the Australian Quarantine Inspection Service.

7. Retrieval of household articles – For claiming your transported goods, all migrants must use Form B534 of the customs, inventory list. Also, a copy of the passport and visa are to be submitted along with the form.

8. Driving - Migrants are expected to apply for an Australian driving license within a maximum of three months’ grace period. An individual holding an International driving Permit must undergo a written test and an eye test for the license.

9. Buying household goods - While goods sold in the Australian malls can be a bit expensive, there are many other bargain stores where a new entrant can get goods and household items at cheaper prices.

10. Travel - Although the public transport system is effective around the cities, the growth of the same is restricted in many areas on account of the vastness and terrain of the country. Buying a car from a second hand dealer can add to significant savings.

Paul writes about UK Freight news and Bristol freight forwarding.

Author: Smit Mathur

Everybody knows Australia Insurance. In this contract the insurer promises the insured to give compensation for the loss of the insured entity or death of the insured person. Premium is the amount which is paid by the insured to the insurance company on behalf of buying the insurance. Insurance is in fact similar to risk management.
There are certain rules and principles which are strictly followed by the insurance companies before insuring anything or anyone. Companies check the reliability of the information provided by the insurer, their earning capacity and the worth of the entity etc. Even when claims for insurance payment are made by the insurer, the companies check about the truth themselves regarding the extent of damage or loss, the insured entity or person and then only they give the insurance money. There are myriad types of insurance available in the insurance companies- Like,
Public liability insurance if any kind of damage happens to the insured property due to any person from the public insurance amount is given.
Vacant land Australia insurance is taken by people who have lands or any construction in the land which is not in use since a long time. In case of any damage due to fire, earthquake, flood etc. to the property insurance, amount will be paid by the company for the loss.
Office insurance is taken by almost every office and their employees. In case of injury of the employees, their hospitalization bills are paid by the insurance company under which they are insured. And if any kind of damage happens to the office its cost is also paid by the Australia insurance company.
Home warranty insurance is a good scheme where maintenance money required for the home is given by the insurance companies
Construction work australia insurance is taken by the builders for their buildings which are under construction and for the workers who are involved in the building construction.
Contract works australia insurance is very popular among people whose nature of work involves them in contract working.
Business insurance quotes are demanded by the companies, so that they can insure their business to the company which offers most competitive price.
Property Insurance has a huge insurance market in Australia.
Other than these insurances life insurance, Motor insurance, Property insurance, Workers compensation insurance and insurance for display home are the most popular types of insurance.
It’s good and important to have insurance because our life is uncertain and insurance provides us and our family a kind of monetary security in case something unexpected and bad happens to us, so that we can face the challenges of life and move ahead.

If you are serious about finding the right job, you need access to top Executives. But what is the best way to gain audience with a very busy CEO? You could try yourself, it may take many un returned calls or letters. The easiest method is to approach an Executive recruiter and to get the most from the relationship there are certain guidelines you should follow.

Put yourself into an Executive Recruiters shoes

How does an Executive Recruiter make their money? Clients can pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for finding the best person for the job. Many prospective candidates approach a head hunter with high expectations. Remember they aren’t paid to help the unemployed find work. Executive Search firms invest millions of dollars in researching the market, identifying talent and developing comprehensive databases. Clients pay to gain access to the best candidates – relevant for the vacant position. Too many times candidates apply for jobs they are not qualified to do and send lengthy resumes providing irrelevant information.

The idea is to market yourself as a specialist, a solution to the specific problem. If you want to stand out from the crowd you need to get clear on your strengths, what you offer and what you want before you even approach an Executive Head Hunter. Make sure your resume reflects your strengths and keep it simple. Resist the temptation of adding a photograph or logos and please cut out the fluff. Your experience should speak for itself, if it doesn’t you are applying for the wrong job.

Identify a Specialist Head Hunter

Next, it is important to determine which executive recruiter specializes in your chosen field. You will find there are many niche specialists who pride themselves on their industry knowledge and contacts. Many Executive Recruiters may have previously worked in your chosen field. There are many ways you can do this, search online, research job boards and check the local press. The most effective way is via recommendation. Ask previous colleagues or mentors if they can recommend a Recruiter who has helped them in the past or provided a good service.

It is important to note that your shortlist of potential recruiters should not be limited to big firms. Focus needs to be placed on Executive Search firms, not high street brands. A good guideline is to check the press or trade journals for advertised roles via search firms. If a company is willing to pay to retain the services of a company it trusts, generally it is an indication of a quality service. It is also a direct reflection of the strength of relationship the Client and recruiter enjoy. If a stronger relationship is in place the client is more likely to trust the recruiters recommendations, increasing your chances of being matched to the perfect job.

The Key to a Successful Partnership

Always show respect for the recruiter, ultimately you are receiving a top class service free of charge. Candidates who approach the relationship with an air of superiority will quickly find they will not hear about the best jobs. Professionalism is key, treat your initial meeting as an interview and be prepared. Some recruiters may wish to treat the interview informally so as to gain a better understanding of the candidate and build rapport.

Being as helpful as possible to any executive recruiter is vital. There is nothing more infuriating than not returning calls, it is important to give regular updates on your job search. It is also very important to keep an open mind, don’t rule out jobs immediately, listen to what the Recruiter has to say and explain why they think this job is right for you. If they are good at what they do then they will have identified a match even if you can’t see it yet.

A very effective and instant way to enamour yourself with your chosen recruiter is to give referrals. If the role is not right for you, perhaps you know someone who could be perfect. The most successful and long lasting relationships are mutually beneficial. By making referrals you will find your Recruiter working harder than ever to help you find that perfect job.

Dexter Cousins is an Executive Head Hunter and has been helping people with their careers for over ten years. As a consultant to Global organizations, Dexter has advised companies in the UK, Europe, USA, Asia and Australia on best practice hiring processes. He is motivated by helping people reach their career goals and provides coaching and counseling on job search and interview success.

There are so many great ways to travel the world while earning a decent living, but if you also love working with children, becoming a nanny in Australia could be the perfect opportunity. Many families and resorts offer employment to nannies in Australia of all ages who are motivated and ready to become part of their family abroad!

One of the main considerations when looking for nanny or au pair jobs in Australia is certification; the last thing you want to do is find your dream job online, only to find out that it will be difficult to get a work visa! For this reason, most nannies in Australia looking for work abroad begin by registering with nanny agencies. Nanny agencies in Australia specialize in matching families looking for childcare with appropriate nannies and au pairs. By working with a nanny agency, you have the opportunity to reach many potential families with one application process, which will save you valuable time to plan your move abroad!

To start, you’ll have to find nanny in Australia placement agencies that place nannies in the specific region or country to which you’d like to move. While you are considering where this should be, there are a few important factors to consider:

Language Barrier: If you are a native English speaker, you’ll want to consider whether or not you’ll be comfortable in a non-English-speaking environment. Many families in non-English speaking countries would love to hire an English-speaking nanny who can help teach their child English. At the same time, communication with the family itself could be difficult.

Certification Requirements: Every country has different requirements for nannies, and it is important to know if you will have to pass a certification exam before you can legally obtain a nanny position in Australia or Abroad.

Exchange Rates: Depending on what you are looking for in a nanny job overseas, you’ll need to consider whether the standard wages in a foreign country will be enough to sustain your lifestyle.

Once you have narrowed down options for a particular region to find a nanny job, you should consider what kind of nanny abroad job you are looking for. Some of the most popular jobs for nannies overseas are summer jobs. These are generally three-month cultural exchange placements, and will allow nannies to travel as well as work with a family. A summer nanny provides all of the same functions as a full-time, year-round nanny but might have the added responsibility of being with the children while they are out of school and on vacation.

An Internet search is an invaluable tool to find an appropriate nanny in Australia agency. Some popular nanny agencies that place nannies abroad are:

Kingsbrook USA: Kingsbrook USA provides placement assistance for nannies and au pairs in the UK, Europe and Australia. Jobs are full time for 25-35 hours per week, and host families provide room and board as well as some “pocket money.” Nannies are expected to commit to a minimum of 9 months (full school year), but there are some short-term summer placements (3 months) available as well. Make sure to contact them very quickly if you are interested, since they don’t list their “administrative fee” on the website.

Almondbury Au Pair and Nanny Agency: UK-based Almondbury really stands out as a great agency for nannies and au pairs abroad because it places job seekers without charging an administrative fee (or any fee for that matter). They place nannies and au pairs in countries across Europe including Austria, Belgium, Italy and Sweden.

Best Programs (Spain): Best programs is a language-intensive nanny placement agencies, where nannies and au pairs are responsible for being English language models for the children in addition to performing basic household tasks. Nannies are expected to have an interest in the Spanish language and culture, and will take classes at a Spanish academy in Madrid during their placements.

After you’ve chosen the right program, you can gather together all of the materials requested, which generally include a resume (childcare-related), references and any proof of certification. After you have submitted these documents, the agency will either match you with an appropriate family, or give you access to a number of host family profiles online. Each agency will have different matching criteria, and it is best to ask what kinds of things they prioritize when placing a nanny during the application process.

Starting a position abroad can be exciting, and the experience is life-changing. As a nanny or au pair working overseas, it is important to take in all of the sights and sounds of your host country, while being a reliable and stable presence in a child’s life.

Discover how to find, apply for, and land nanny jobs in Australia or abroad.
